Period Power: A Movement | Relationships
Today we’re talking about something that happens to every single woman before menopause, but yet, has created such an incredible pain for women around the world. And that is periods.
We all know about the history of gender inequality and the stereotypical ways in which women have been treated in the past, but even in this day and age, there is still so much shame and stigmatization around this topic in particular.
We are so, so lucky to be joined by an incredible activist in this episode; Nadya Okamoto. She is so young and is already doing such incredible things in this world. At just the age of 16, she started the non-profit organization, PERIOD. Through the PERIOD Movement, they are fighting to end period poverty through service, education, and advocacy. They distribute products to people in need and are trying to change the way that people talk and learn about periods. They also fight for systemic changes toward menstrual equity by actively advocating for and passing legislation around accessible period products and taking down the tampon tax.
We seriously loved this conversation with Nadya Okamoto and we can’t wait for you all to listen in! She enlightened us on so many areas around inequality regarding periods that we had no idea about but are so, so important to be aware of.
We wouldn’t be here without periods so let’s honor them!
